Overview of the Department The National Diploma (ND) Programme was accorded resource approval in year 2014 by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the full accreditation was secured in November, 2020. The accreditation team revisited the Polytechnic on 29th November, 2022 for the resource approval of the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Banking and Finance Programme. The result was favourable as the HND Programme was approved in December, 2022 by the Board. Course Objectives Goal of the ND Programme The goal of the National Diploma (ND) programme in Banking and Finance is to produce intermediate technical manpower with sound theoretical and practical knowledge for graduates who can effectively perform a range of various functions in banks, other Financial Institutions, Commerce, Industry, Private and Public Enterprises. Course Objectives The diplomats of the ND Banking and Finance should be able to:  Collect and integrate basic financial data for use in investment decisions;  Assist in the preparation of the final account of companies and other financial organisations. Assist in the preparation of short-term and long-term budgets;  Collect and collate relevant financial information to aid superior officers and management financial decisions;  Compute basic financial and statistical ratios; and  Assist in the analysis and evaluation of investment proposals, price and market trends. Goal of the HND Programme The Higher National Diploma (HND) programme in Banking and Finance is designed to produce graduates with comprehensive knowledge and thorough understanding of business operations of banks and financial institutions. This should place the graduates in management positions in the Banking and Finance Industry. The HND programme should contribute adequately to the production of good, quality, honest and dedicated management manpower for banks, Financial Institutions, Commerce, Industry as well as Private and Public Enterprises. Course Objectives The graduate of the HND Banking and Finance programme should be able to:  Analyse and criticize final accounts of firms, especially as an aid to lending;  Conduct search and perfect all security document submitted by borrowing customers;  Interpret basic statistical data (Price changes, interest and foreign exchange, etc);  Calculate, interpret and apply the Net Present Value and Internal Rate of Return and other Investment criteria;  Prepare short and long-term budget plans such as cash budget, sales budget and profoma statement of financial position;  Forecast market trends so as to determine profitability, viability, etc;  Evaluate and manage investment portfolio;  Analyse investment proposals; and  Analyse and Evaluate financial assets for investment purposes. Available Modes of Study: Full Time, Part Time, Part Time Evening, ODFeL Full Time, Part lime, Part lime evening, ODFeL Entry Requirements for ND Programme: An applicant with the following qualifications may be considered for admission into the National Diploma (ND) programme in Banking and Finance by direct entry: Senior Secondary Certificate or its equivalent (WAEC, NECO, GCE Ordinary Level) with five credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and any other three subjects from the following; Economics/Commerce, Business Methods, Principles of Accounts, Book Keeping, Literature in English, History, Statistics, Geography, Civil Education, Government, Agricultural Science/Biology obtained at not more than two sittings or five passes in relevant subjects as stated above obtained as the final examination of NABTEB. The structure of the curriculum of ND Banking and Finance programme consists of four main components, these includes: General Studies Courses, Foundational Courses, Professional Courses and Supervised Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) The curriculum of the programme is structured into four semester of classroom/workshop/laboratory activities within the institution and three (3) to four (4) months supervised industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) in relevant industry. Each semester of the institutional based activities shall be for seventeen (17) weeks duration distributed as follow; 15 weeks of teaching including practicals, tests, quizzes and so on and two weeks shared for registration and examination. Entry Requirements for HND Programme An applicant with the following qualifications may be considered for admission into Higher National Diploma (HND) programme in Banking and Finance by direct entry:  All the requirement for admission into the ND Banking and Finance programme  A minimum of lower credit pass (GPA 2.50) in the ND Banking and Finance;  A minimum of one year Post ND cognate experience (Industrial Training) The curriculum of the programme is structured into four semester of classroom/workshop/laboratory activities within the institution. Each semester of the institutional based activities shall be for seventeen (17) weeks duration distributed as follow; 15 weeks of teaching including practicals, tests, quizzes and so on and two weeks shared for registration and examination.
